Sunshine makes me more holy?

Sunlight has been touted as the powerhouse of our earth and our bodies. God made the sun on the first few days of creation.

As humans, we seem to forget what it does for us.

☀️ Sunlight has been demonized with skin cancer and damaging UV rays.

Polarized sunglasses. UV blockers. 🕶️

Tanning beds. Fake orange tanning lotions. 🧴

2,450 SPF sunscreen. Just kidding. Mostly 90 SPF.

In elementary school we learned about photosynthesis, the ability of plant matter to grow when sunlight is added to the equation. 🪴

(Side note to all of the botanists and biologists out there: Full Disclosure….I really don’t know what I am talking about here except I remember that one tiny part.) 😆

The importantly VITAL part is the sunlight. Sunlight is necessary for all living things to grow and thrive.

Including us humans.

Some plants are full sun dependent and some plants are shade dependent, so not much bright sun. Hmmm.

God’s superpower

For most of my five decades, I haven’t fully realized the power of the sun to energize and fuel my body.

Just recently, I have come to the amazing realization that sunlight is the superpower that God intended for us to take full advantage.

God created our bodies with an amazing computer that runs continuously. God made our bodies to run on rhythms. We have a natural 24-hour internal clock. ⏰

It’s a master clock that is basically a group of nerve cells in the brain’s hyperthalmus called “suprachiasmatic nucleus” (SCN) that directs our body/brain rhythm. This internal clock manages our sleep/awake times, body temperature, and hormone release. It’s controlled by light/dark cues processed by a tiny control center in the brain.

We call this internal clock our Circadian Rhythm. In a healthy rhythm, daylight is regularly scheduled and screens are dimmed at sundown. This rhythm is routine and our bodies’ rhythms are more important than we realize.

In the morning, light cues tells the brain to stop producing melatonin. Our brain wakes up and is ready to begin the day.

After sundown, nighttime triggers the brain to release melatonin which makes us feel sleepy and tired.

That is normal circadian rhythm. Normal. 🥸

@arunanoop

When this light/dark schedule gets interrupted, our bodies begin to misfire and dysfunction occurs. When our rhythm is disrupted, many things begin to be out of whack. 🙃

Disruption might be any of these and more…

  • Poor sleep habits

  • Health Issues

  • Jet Lag

  • Stress

  • Physical Activity

  • Cortisol

  • Medications

  • Temperature

  • Food Intake

  • Caffeine

  • Work Schedules

  • Social and Church Schedules

These distruptions might lead to any of the following:

insulin resistance, weight gain, mood changes, low energy, hormonal imbalance. (osmosis.org; mayoclinic.org;)

If we are Spirit, Soul, Body….

then our Body is 1/3 of that equation. Right? 🤔

If our body is not functioning at its fullest capacity,

in its God-given rhythm,

then what?

We are not in sync with our rhythm that God created us. If we aren’t in sync, then are we out of alignment with God?

I realize, if you’ve read this far, you’re most likely saying, hey now, Val….really?

You’re really going out on a limb here….

Maybe so, but I don’t think so.

I have used this unsplash image previously here. When our rhythm is off, this is most likely what we look like. 😤No offense to any of you’s. 😅

Your outfit is great. Cute! So cute. Your hair, oh my! Amazing! 🤣

But how’s your circadian rhythm? How are you treating what God provided to KEEP your body healthy?

Ecclesiastes 11:6-7 says, “Light is sweet in the morning…pleasant for your eyes to behold the sun.”

How many of us are not well because we are not keeping our temples of the Holy Ghost in the rhythm that God intended? God made us. God made the sun. God created our internal clocks. We are Spirit, Soul, Body.

If one-third of that equation is off, we are not balanced. Our clocks are not functioning properly.

We are pushing the limits of the caffeine,

not dimming our screens after sundown,

staying up too late (me too),

eating too late, etc. etc.

We aren’t getting morning sunshine.

We aren’t getting amazing sunset light in our eyeballs, into our brains.

Our eyeballs are locked to our doomscrolling instead. ugh!

We wonder why we are not feeling good. We wonder why we’re sick and needing medications. We wonder why we are gaining weight. We wonder why we are depressed and moody. We wonder why we are so imbalanced.

God is wondering why we aren’t following HIS created rhythm.

If you’ve read this far, I want you to join me. ⧉ I am re-reading:

The Circadian Code: Lose Weight, Supercharge Your Energy and Transform Your Health from Morning to Midnight by Satchin Panda, PhD

What would happen if we were all in sync with the sun, our own body’s rhythm, our circadian code?

Would we be less stressed? More holy? More like Him?

How about we try it out? Who’s in?

Cannot wait to hear from all of you! Let’s do this!

Starting now…💚
